Job description

An exciting new role has emerged at The Spectator magazine, one of the UK’s oldest, yet rapidly growing magazines. The Spectator is seeking an email marketing manager to be responsible for planning and delivering effective email marketing strategies across the business to achieve subscriptions growth, increased customer retention, increased web traffic and lifetime value of The Spectator’s customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage The Spectator’s email marketing program with the objective of engaging our audience, achieving return on investment and minimising churn
  • Work closely with the Editorial team to ensure look and feel and tone of voice are appropriate to the brand and look for opportunities to engage with the content to give value to the customers
  • Grow the database using creative marketing and cross-promotional tactics both online and offline
  • Create a successful acquisitions and renewals email strategy that supports the overall growth objectives of the subscriptions marketing team.
  • Manage all email campaigns in email service provider platform (Adestra), including creative, setup, testing, deployment, and reporting
  • Develop and implement effective customer lifecycle campaigns to promote loyalty, create ongoing engagement through habits and re-acquire lapsed subscribers
  • Create, monitor and develop automated email campaign series such as welcome programmes, brand engagement and re-engagement campaigns to improve LTV and reduce churn
  • Work closely with all departments (Editorial, Advertising, Marketing, Events, Production) and the wider business to ensure that they all support and contribute to the overarching data strategy
  • Develop email strategies to incorporate personalisation, segmentation and targeting using audience behaviour traits and modelling
  • Ensure all data insight and email behaviour is driven back to the single customer view to build a robust view of our customer
  • Seek out new developments and drive best practice in email marketing and present opportunities to the management team
  • Work with the Design and Production teams to ensure that messages are accurate and designs are strong
  • Work with the commercial team on all sales emails and recommend commercial opportunities within new and existing email campaigns
  • Monitor and report on the results of all email campaigns, producing projected revenue and cost forecasts and providing weekly/monthly reporting and actionable next steps that will grow and optimise the email campaigns including offers, messaging and creatives.

Essential skills

  • Significant experience in email marketing, preferably with subscriptions-based products
  • Experience analysing and reporting data, to identify issues and trends in order to drive strategy
  • Experience in creating and presenting management reports
  • Good knowledge of HTML and the ability to make creative and layout design changes to campaigns
  • Experience in working with multiple ESP platforms
  • Experience implementing and managing initiatives driven by personalisation, customer segmentation, engagement and LTV of customer
  • Working knowledge of Google Analytics
  • Self-starter, takes initiative, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities under pressure and tight deadlines in a fast paced, changing environment
  • A people person, able to communicate effectively with members of senior management
  • A good eye for detail
