‘our newly chosen — though not elected — Prime Minister decided to address the country directly’
Not again!
Under our constitution, we do not elect Prime Ministers. We elect MPs; the majority Party governs; the majority Party Leader is Prime Minister. The Conservatives are in the majority and may choose whomsoever they wish.
As for the substance, I have never been a fan of Theresa May; I consider her to be a failed Home Secretary (immigration, foreign criminals etc, etc). At the moment there seems to be not a single MP from any Party who would make a good Prime Minister, or perhaps there are no takers for the office when it comes to a contest. I’m fairly confident that there will come a time. Meanwhile, at least Theresa May has stopped Hinckley Point dead in its tracks. As if we could ever entrust some of our energy requirements to the Chinese government! Has the country gone mad?
