Last year the government withdrew its funding from the pseudo-academic website The Conversation, saying its aggressive expansion appeared to indicate it could stand on its own two feet.

That was the official line. There was another, unstated reason: that it peddled nothing but clickbait and leftie shite in competition with the commercial media.
