Sidelined

Sir: I strenuously object to David Flint’s assertion (“Footballers have rights too”, March 2) that Australia’s National Rugby League is somehow being prejudicial to players’ rights by standing them down, on full pay, whilst courts decide on criminal issues.

My main point is that all Australians, from cabbies to cabinet ministers and from teachers to futures traders all get stood down from our jobs when we’re charged with heinous offences.
