This evening’s Commons debate has shown the extent of Tory backbench frustration over ministers refusal to consult them on increasing coronavirus restrictions. But it has also shown that the situation isn’t beyond repair. MPs have been blunt in their criticism of the government, but they were also polite and clearly keen to avoid a stand-off.
