Large numbers of people are still being ordered to self-isolate in spite of having been vaccinated — 137,560 people were identified as close contacts of positive Covid cases through the Test and Trace system between 10 and 16 June. How well have they been adhering to the rules?

— 79% say they have fully conformed.

— 80% claimed they had had no contact with non-household members.

— Of the 21% who didn’t adhere to the rules, 90% said they had left home during the period in which they were supposed to be isolating and 21% said they had had visitors to their home.

— 41% said that isolating had had a negative effect on their wellbeing and mental health.

— 28% reported that they had lost income.

The number of daily Covid infections passed 18,000. How does the rate of death and number of people in hospital compare with when infections last passed that level?

— On Saturday, when infections passed 18,000, there were 1,529 people in hospital with Covid and the number of deaths over the course of the week was 119.


— During the second wave in autumn 2020, the number of daily infections passed 18,000 on 4 October. At that point there were 3,056 people in hospital and there had been 362 deaths in the previous week.

— After falling back during the second lockdown, infections once again passed 18,000 a day on 10 December. At that point there were 16,723 people in hospital and weekly deaths stood at 2,986.
