I had hoped I wouldn’t be drawn to re-read David Satter’s It Was a Long Time Ago and it Never Happened Anyway, but current affairs and the state of the world made its siren call irresistible. It’s not that the book is a bad one, quite the contrary, it’s excellent, enthralling, appalling, sickening, frightening.
