The government’s mission to destroy cash is being done by proxy. Knowing that legislation to outright ban it proved unpopular during the Morrison government, Labor is instead leaning on the banks (who have closed thousands of ATMs) and the big supermarket chains (who are closing registers in favour of card-only self check-outs).
