The Soviet-style conviction of Donald Trump on 30 May is a constitutionally offensive political weapon. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is emerging, along with Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, as one of the great Western leaders, a point I shall return to below.

As to the conviction, if it is not reversed, the US will eventually fall to the status of a declining banana republic.
