Not many of us remember Fred M. Canfil, who, when visiting an Oklahoma prison in 1945, was impressed by a sign that read, ‘The buck stops here’. With the exception, it would appear, of Anthony Albanese, most people are now familiar with that phrase, thanks to Fred, who sent a placard bearing those four words to his friend President Harry S.
