Free speech is a bedrock of our democracy. But we should be clear on what it is. And what it isn’t. Essentially it means that, except in extreme circumstances, you as an individual cannot be prosecuted for expressing an opinion that the government does not like.

It is now commonly accepted that the right to protest is a manifestation of free speech.
